Bishop’s Stortford
North Development

Working for a Consortium comprising the country’s leading housebuilders (Persimmon, Taylor Wimpey, Bovis Homes, Kier Homes and The Fairfield Partnership), Iain Vellacott and Althea Taylor-Salmon were responsible for all aspects of the PR and consultation programme associated with a proposal for a 2,200 home sustainable mixed-use extension to the north of Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire.

The 18 months project included:-

Initial research to identify the history of the site, key stakeholders and potential areas of support and objection
Designing, writing and setting up a project website
The formulation and implementation of a detailed communications programme, including organising two community consultation open days and a subsequent feedback event that attracted a total of over 1,000 people
Continued liaison with stakeholders and the media through the evolution of the project
Monitoring and advice to the project team on emerging issues
Writing the Statement of Community Engagement to accompany the planning application

East Hertfordshire District Council granted planning permission for the development in January 2014.

Community Engagement on Development Proposals – Bishop's Stortford North

Iain is undoubtedly one of the best in the business. His extensive experience coupled with his understanding of the planning system make him a key member of a project team. His initial research and ongoing monitoring are always extremely useful in identifying potential issues and opportunities and his communications abilities are excellent -whether it be writing press releases or exhibition boards or just having a quiet cup of tea with a concerned local resident. I would have no hesitation in recommending Iain – he is a pleasure to work with, an excellent ambassador and he always gives 100% commitment to a project.
